DVD6C has revised the License Program relating to DVD-ROM Drive incorporated into Car Navigation System

August 19, 2005 --- The DVD6C Licensing Group (DVD6C) consisting of nine leading developers of DVD technology and formats - Hitachi, Ltd., International Business Machines Corporation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO), Sharp Corporation (Sharp), Toshiba Corporation, Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC), and Warner Home Video Inc. - today announced that it has slightly revised the DVD6C Patent License Program effective as of July 1, 2005.

The revision relates to the DVD-ROM Drive incorporated into Car Navigation System. Effective as of July 1, 2005, DVD6C will treat a DVD-ROM Drive which will be incorporated into a subsequently manufactured Car Navigation System that does not have DVD-Video Player function or DVD-Audio Player function, as a License Product. Therefore, a royalty shall be due on such a DVD-ROM Drive only, but not on the subsequently manufactured Car Navigation System. Royalty rate for such a DVD-ROM Drive remains the same, namely 4% of the net selling price or US$4.00 (US$3.00 for the Licensees who have taken the new 6C License ("New Categorized License")), whichever is greater, US$8.00 at maximum.
